Accessibility
Last updated: 16 September 2026.
Short version: this site is built to be used with a keyboard and with a screen reader, and the text is measured for contrast rather than guessed at. If something here does not work for you, write and tell me — the address is at the bottom of this page, and I answer myself.
What we aim for
shelfmirror.com aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 level AA (opens in a new tab) and to Israeli Standard 5568, which is built on the same guidelines.
The word is aim, not certified. The site has not been audited by an outside accessibility examiner. What has been checked, and how, is written out below, and so is what has not.
What has been done
- Contrast is measured, not assumed. Every piece of text and every control was measured against the background it actually sits on, in the light theme and in the dark one. Body text meets 4.5:1 and large text meets 3:1. Seven places that fell short were corrected.
- The whole site works from the keyboard. Every link, button, quiz answer and question in the FAQ can be reached with the Tab key, in a sensible order. There are no keyboard traps and nothing that only a mouse can reach.
- The focus indicator is always visible — including on the coloured buttons, where a plain outline of the same colour would have disappeared.
- The six-question quiz speaks. Each new question and the final result are announced to a screen reader, so someone who cannot see the screen still knows it changed. The Yes and No buttons carry the question with them, instead of being read as a bare "Yes".
- The decorative picture of the program window is hidden from screen readers. It is drawn in code, not a real screenshot, and reading it aloud produced a stream of meaningless fragments. The sentence that explains what it is remains readable.
- There is a "Skip to content" link at the very start of the main page, visible as soon as it takes focus.
- Structure is marked up properly: header, navigation, main content and footer are named as such; every page has exactly one first-level heading and the heading levels run in order without gaps; the language of every page is declared as English.
- Text can be enlarged and the layout still holds — the pages reflow down to phone width without sideways scrolling.
- Nothing gets in the way: no cookie banner, no pop-ups, no carousels, no time limits, no content that moves or flashes on its own.
These checks are re-run automatically every time the site is changed, so a future edit cannot quietly undo them.
What is known not to be covered
- The payment buttons are not ours. They are drawn by PayPal inside their own frame on the price section. We cannot inspect or change what is inside it, and we do not claim it meets the standard. If the payment buttons are a barrier for you, write to us and we will send you a payment link instead, or take the payment another way.
- No test with a screen reader in daily use. The checks above were done by measurement and by working through the site with a keyboard. They have not been repeated by someone who uses NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver every day. If you do, your report is worth more than any of our own testing — please send it.
- No outside audit and no certificate. Stated plainly rather than implied.
- Pages outside this site. Links here can lead to eBay, to Facebook, to PayPal and to a storefront site; those are run by other people and this statement does not cover them.
Who is responsible
The site and the program behind it are made and run by Michael Shabtai. There is no company and no support desk: the person who wrote the site is the person who reads your message.
Tell us if something does not work
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use — a page, a button, the quiz, the contrast, anything — please write. Say what you were trying to do and what got in the way, and, if you can, which browser and which assistive software you use.
